Ophthalmologists started celebrating their professional holiday the "International Day of Ophthalmology" in 2004. The date of the "International Day of Ophthalmology" was August 8 - the birthday of the famous ophthalmologist Svyatoslav Fyodorov.
S.N. Fyodorov was not just a highly professional microsurgeon- ophthalmologist. Not abandoning medical practice, he was actively engaged in scientific research, and together with his colleague V. Zakharov created one of the world's hardest artificial lens - Fyodorov-Zakharov model intraocular lenses.
The ophthalmologist's job is to diagnose the condition of the eyes, identify certain abnormalities and prescribe appropriate treatment. The profession of an ophthalmologist is often mistakenly regarded as "clean work", but eye doctors also have to deal with atypical injuries: as a result of accidents and physical injuries.
