Keratoplasty

Keratoplasty

Keratoplasty – is a microsurgical operation by means of which is obtained functional recovery of the shape of the cornea, as well as the elimination of deformations and corneal defects that occur due to injury and inflammation. The operation allows you to restore lost or reduced vision as a result of pathological processes in the cornea using donor corneal tissue. For most patients keratoplasty - is the only hope to restore vision.

Indications for keratoplasty

  • Changes in the cornea after uveitis, keratitis
  • Clouding of the cornea, leading to the formation of cataracts
  • Congenital corneal: keratoconus, keratoglobus
  • Conditions after chemical, thermal burns
  • Corneal dystrophy
  • Scarring (including postoperative) corneal edema/li>
  • Bullous keratopathy

Keratoplasty is considered to be one of the most popular surgeries in the world. Every year around the world are conducted thousands of keratoplasty surgeries restoring vision of already desperate patients. Now, the implantation of the cornea in the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Ophthalmological Hospital takes place in the shortest possible time and gives a stable positive result. As an implant material for keratoplasty in our clinic we use corneal graft specimens produced by SE "Bioimplant" the Ministry of Health of Ukraine " from the donor cornea according to TU U 32.5-35544302-001: 2013.

One of the most significant achievements of the past decade in the operational ophthalmology was the use of a femtosecond laser. It allows ophthalmologists to calculate and conduct the surgery within microns. In addition, using the laser during a surgery is faster, much more comfortable and safer for the patient. Recovery after the surgery is easier for the patient and faster than the traditional intervention. The period of vision rehabilitation is shorter. And most importantly - a new graft technique using a femtosecond laser allows to achieve the best results in visual acuity.

Due to precise work of the femtosecond laser, tissue section is perfectly flat, and after transplantation the donor tissue and the patient’s tissue align perfectly. It is quite difficult to achieve when transplanting tissues in a classical (manual) way.

Dnipropetrovsk Regional Ophthalmological Hospital, the only one in Ukraine, conducts keratoplasty using a femtosecond laser VICTUS. Today, in our clinic we have conducted more than 160 keratoplasty surgeries. Keratoplasty is performed in our clinic by the Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Ph.D., chief ophthalmologist GUOZ Dnipropetrovsk region, member of the German Ophthalmological Society, the European and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgeons, the doctor of highest category Valery Serdiuk, MD, and also by ophthalmologists- surgeons of the highest category.
