Cataract Treatment

Cataract Treatment

Cataracts is a partial or complete clouding of the eye lens which is manifested by decreased visual acuity and a sense of veil or mist.

Nowadays, one of the most common misconceptions related to the fact that cataract must “mature” in order it is possible to conduct a successful surgery. This is not true. There is no point in waiting – a surgical removal of the crystalline lens can be conducted at any stage of the disease. Modern tools and advanced methods used in such operations on eyes in DOKOL have greatly expanded the indications for surgical intervention.

One of the newest methods which allows to remove the crystalline lens in patients with immature cataract is a crystalline lens supersonic fragmentation or phacoemulsification. This method is widely used in the best clinics in the world and it is the least traumatic procedure for the patient. During a normal operation, an incision of 15 mm in length is made but during the phacoemulsification only 2 mm are enough. Through this hole, more like a puncture, the supersonic probe is introduced with the help of which the crystalline lens is fragmented into tiny particles and pumped out of the chamber. The new artificial lens is introduced through the hole in the cornea using a special injector. The whole operation takes about 10-15 minutes.
