Ophthalmology department №1

Ophthalmology department №1

Ophthalmology department №1 is a part of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital. This department is the first eye department in our region found in the Katerinoslav county hospital over a century ago. In fact, on the department’s basis was created the ophthalmological school of our region. More than a thousand of ophthalmologists who have been working not only in our region but far beyond have completed a course in our department. Long-term traditions and experience of treating patients are kept in the department along with constant practical innovations in new progressive treatment methods.

The department is a clinical base of the Academic Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology of the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy. Along with a great practical treatment work, large scientific researches are held in the department. Scientific methodological and consultative work in the department is led by Vasyl Mykytovych Sakovych, M. D., an associate professor of the Academic Department of Neurology and Ophthalmology. 4 doctors of the highest qualification, qualified paramedical and nursing staff work in the department.

Principal focus areas of the department’s work:

  1. Early diagnosis and full treatment (which includes methods of microsurgery and laser surgery) of patients with different types of glaucoma.
  2. Treating patients with corneal and retinal pathologies.
  3. Treating patients with different types of visual organ injuries.
  4. Diagnosing and treating patients with benign and malign visual organ blastemas.
  5. Treating patients with a pathology of appendages of the eye and the eyesocket.

According to the stated visual organ pathologies we adopted treatment methods of up-to-date home and foreign ophthalmological clinics which include methods of microsurgery and laser surgery. It should be noted that the above listed pathology is so-called “non-commercial”, its diagnostics and treatment demand a high level of professional knowledge of the medical staff, well-fitted medical equipment, adherence to diagnostic and treatment procedure. All this needs a great contribution of working time. That is why commercial medical structures don’t deal with such a pathology. Though, the necessity in this aid is rather high.
